The Project
MedTech provides clinical, registration and record management systems for General Practitioners, doctors and medical organizations. The company wanted to redevelop their Delphi/Interbase based product into .NET and at the same time improve it and introduce new features.

MedTech's system is a complex enterprise application that stores and manages patients' medical records and communicates with many other government and third party health systems to exchange medical information.The application also has integrated accounting and financial modules.

Ivan was hired to consult MedTech's internal development team and architects and bring .NET architecture best practices knowledge to the development. He created the high level architecture, focusing on the two main redevelopment objectives: to enable easy deployment and upgrade and improve the communication with the numerous external heterogeneous systems.

Following Ivan's recommendations MedTech decided to redesign their product as a .NET WinForms SmartClient, which allowed for fast deployment and seamless future upgrades. Ivan designed and documented a generic and scalable messaging architecture, enabling the system to internally handle all messages by employing XML and XSLT and use adapters to connect and exchange data with external systems. Working closely with MedTech’s development team, Ivan successfully applied OO design patterns into the application’s architecture and produced UML diagrams.
